Agentic RAG-a-thon 2: winners and recap

We're thrilled to share the winners of our recent LlamaIndex Hackathon! This three-day event brought together some of the brightest minds in AI development, resulting in an impressive array of projects that showcase the power of generative AI and how to build with LlamaIndex.

Event Highlights

  • Over 500 registrations
  • 45 projects submitted
  • 12 dedicated sponsors supporting the event
  • $14,700 in cash prizes awarded!

The hackathon challenged participants to go beyond basic chatbots, encouraging the development of agentic RAG systems. We were particularly interested to see people build agents and combine them with our workflows to create multi-agent systems, and we were not disappointed! We were blown away by the creativity and technical prowess demonstrated by the teams.

Winning Projects

1st Place: Timeline of You

The Timeline of You team

The grand prize winner, "Timeline of You," impressed judges with its comprehensive approach to personal data analysis. This innovative project:

  • Ingests various forms of personal data, including resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and academic citations
  • Generates a detailed timeline of career accomplishments
  • Creates tailored content, such as O1 visa applications with appropriate reference letters
  • Provides engaging visualizations of personal data

The team's exceptional user interface and clear market potential set this project apart, exemplifying the power of RAG-informed report generation.

2nd Place: Closing.WTF

2nd-place winner Aaron (and his delightful family!)

Taking the runner-up spot, "Closing.WTF" addresses a common pain point in the real estate market:

  • Analyzes mortgage closing documents using LlamaParse
  • Identifies potential areas for negotiation and flags anomalies
  • Presents findings through an intuitive user interface

This practical application of RAG-informed report generation impressed judges with its clear use-case and significant market potential.

3rd Place: OilyRAGs

3rd place winner Jeff

Securing third place, "OilyRAGs" demonstrated the value of AI in specialized industries:

  • Developed an automation tool for boat mechanics
  • Indexes part catalogs and service manuals
  • Generates reports on related parts and required services based on part numbers
  • Includes a mobile interface with multimodal recognition for part number identification

Despite facing technical challenges during development, Jeff delivered a robust solution that showcases the practical applications of report generation in streamlining existing processes.
